This workshop will address several important ethical and legal strategies for providing the highest standrds of care in group work.
Objectives:
1. Learn the essentials of "Competency" and "Stadnard of Care" requirements as they pertain to group therapy.
2. Indentify the frequently overlooked ingredients needed in an Informed Consent to Treatment and Group Guidelines that will help you maintain ethical practice and prevent future issues.
3. Develop a thorough knowledge of the legal and ethical repsonsiblities around confidentiality, privacy, duty to warn, and duty to protect, particularly as they relate to providing treatment in group settings.
4. Learn the essentials of documentation: what needs to be in a client record; how to write progress notes from a risk managment perspective; how long clients records should be retained; who has access to records; and the difference between psychotherapy notes and medical records according to HIPPAA legislation.

Dr. Beaton is both a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is the Founder and Director of The Anxiety & Stress Managment Institute in Atlanta, and she has taught numerous workshops both nationally and internationally. Dr. Beaton was the Ethics Chair for the Licensed Professioanl Counselor's Association of Georgia (LPCA-GA) for two years, and she is currently on the Ethics Committee for the Georgia Psychological Assocation. In 2005, Dr. Beaton was voted Counselor Educator of the Year by LPCA-GA. She has taught Ethics, Supervision, and Advanced Group Therapy as an adjunct professor in the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services at Georgia State University.
